Melody in words

Monday, February 11th, 2008

In the seasons of my soul i have known the shelter of song. For me there have been many occasions where words dry up only to survive when attached to melody. The latter happens when my faith and life separate and stare at one another.. Below words and melody have met, and when sung it rekindles the pleasure that maybe someone is listening… In these moments im taken to the days where song was created among those who loved, who gathered, who became, but this piece was crafted by the everyday sound of self responding to a constipated soul.

Mercy mercy
This walk through the valley
Such barren and beauty
It’s here You talk to me

Mercy mercy
When these eyes lose sight
Between the wrong and right
You come to guide me, (home, repeat)

Mercy mercy
When silence steals your voice
And weakness takes its course
Your still standing with me

Mercy mercy
When doubt sleeps next to me
I close these eyelids and see
You singing over me (over me, repeat)

Chorus..
Now and forever
Your shadow over me
Now and forever
Jesus, friend to me

Now and Forever
No matter what comes my way
Now and Forever
You will sustain

Freedom Day/Homes of Freedom/JustOne

Wednesday, February 6th, 2008

Wanting to share a little about this last Friday (Feb 1st). Though it was a full day, up at 4am to bed at 2am, the day was full of hope and progress. I sat with Senators, Government representatives, advocates, and NGO Leaders in Olympia Washington, state capital. It was there where the opening of the first ever home for trafficking survivors was noticed and the ‘bill’ passed for all survivors to have complete anonymity was put into effect. Amazing. I come to find out that the state of Washington is leading the way in dealing with this trafficking issue, I was so encouraged sitting their and listening in to all that has taken place and all that they desire to see happen.

After this i met up with Kaylan (brother) and went into Seattle to prep for the opening celebration that JustOne was to oversee. With less than 2 weeks to put this together the evening was incredible. With well over 150 people packed into this secluded coffee house, the night sang with story, film, networking and hope. The energy was contagious, young and old coming together to be one voice to end slavery, if not in their day then in the days of their children or grandchildren. For many it was a beginning, and for others, it was the encouragement needed to elevate their expectation and imaginations.

Want to thank; Charles and Ted from JustOne for making the trek out here to be part of this amazing evening, even more so i should thank your families for allowing you to come… Phil M and Emily, Brandon and the whole gang, Ryan and those who made the drive from Sandy, Tim and Mosaic Coffee House, Alicia and Kaylan for the place to lay our head, michele, ashtin and liam for coming to be with dad and take care of all the balloons. Lastly, Rani and Trong for allowing your story to shine… (see picture above)

There will be blood

It didnt feel like 2 hours and 40 minutes, i guess thats what a carefully crafted “character” driven film can do, suck you in so time stands still…This film portrays the power and tug of greed, so haunting is this shadow it pulls you down to the depths of despair, though you struggle for air, dark fills the lungs and you become one with the torment…. The paradox of two worlds dancing so close you see no distinction. In many respects a modern day story with universal casualties…. A must see.

A garden where the daily soil of living unearths the soul. A garden where your ‘bodily inhale’ experiences beauty and lament, which then forms your ‘exhale’ to right the wrongs on the earth through the humble force of mercy . A human garden where; you dig through the layers of time , seed forgiveness, plant together, listen for birth, cultivate growth and welcome death. A garden where you fall slowly into the silent sounds of hope, faith, and love.

To observe through all things film, human, ink. To ask, wonder, hope, hurt, speak. Hope to join you on the observation deck; the city, world, neighborhood and stranger.
